Bob Hamm, MMR

Eastern Director

I've been a member of the NMRA for much of the last fifty years starting in 1968, taking some twenty years or so off in late 1970s to mid 1990s after a job change and relocation. I rejoined in the mid 1990s chairing an NER convention in 1997 and co-chairing again in 2001. I served in all the leadership offices of the Hudson Berkshire Division and eight years on the Northeastern Region BOD as well as some twelve years as NER Contest Chair. In 2007 I took over as the National Contest Chair serving eleven years at that post. I earned my MMR in 2003 with nine master builder awards, securing another a year or so ago.

I am a retired mechanical engineer having worked on an interesting variety of projects for a contract R&D company including the space shuttle main engine, a six week stint on a north sea oil platform, and twenty years riding nuclear submarines conducting research projects.

My wonderful wife, Pat, and I celebrated our fiftieth anniversary in 2018. I have two daughters, Karen and Katie, both married with great careers and five wonderful grandchildren. We are currently snowbirds splitting our time between New York and Florida.

My modeling interests gravitated to 3' narrow gauge, (HOn3) in 1972, and I have been modeling the Denver and Rio Grande and Rio Grande Southern ever since. I am currently working on the second edition of the Iron Gorge Subdivision having moved to a new house in 2000.
